Creating your first task

A task is how you ask Hirebase to do something for you. This guide walks you through creating one and getting your first result.

Start a new task

From your workspace, start a new task. You'll be asked to describe what you want done. There's no special format — write it the way you'd ask a capable colleague.

A good task description includes:

  • What you want — the outcome, not the steps. For example, "Write a one-page summary of our return policy."
  • Any context — details the agent should know, like a topic, audience, or tone.
  • What "done" looks like — the format you expect, such as a document, a list, or a short answer.

Be clear about the outcome

The clearest tasks describe a result, not a process. Compare these two:

  • Vague: "Look into competitors."
  • Clear: "List our top five competitors with a one-sentence note on what each does well."

The second version gives the agent a target it can aim for and check itself against.

Let the agent plan

For anything beyond a quick question, the agent may break your task into smaller steps before starting. You'll see these steps appear so you can follow along. This is normal and means the agent is working through your request carefully.

Answer questions if asked

Sometimes an agent needs a detail it can't guess, or wants your approval before doing something important. When that happens, the task will pause and ask you. Just reply, and the work continues.

Get your result

When the task is done, you'll get a result you can read, download, or build on. If it's not quite right, you can reply with feedback and the agent will revise it.

Tips for better results

  • Start small to get a feel for how tasks work.
  • Add context the agent wouldn't otherwise know.
  • Ask for a specific format if you have one in mind.
  • It's fine to follow up — you can refine a result after it's delivered.
