Connecting Gmail
Connecting Gmail lets agents help with email — like drafting replies, finding messages, or sending emails on your behalf. This article explains how to connect it and what to expect.
Why connect Gmail
Once Gmail is connected, you can ask for things like:
- Drafting a reply to a specific email
- Finding and summarizing recent messages on a topic
- Sending an email you've reviewed and approved
Without the connection, agents can still help you write email text, but they can't read or send messages in your account.
How to connect
- Go to the integrations area of your workspace.
- Find Gmail in the list of available connections.
- Choose to connect it. You'll be taken to Google to sign in.
- Review the permissions Google asks for, then approve.
- You'll return to Hirebase with Gmail connected.
The sign-in happens securely on Google's side. Hirebase never sees your Google password.
What permissions are used for
The access you grant lets agents read and send email only as part of the tasks you give them. An agent won't browse your inbox on its own — it acts within the task you've created.
Sending email is always reviewed
Sending an email affects the outside world, so an agent will pause and ask for your approval before sending — even when a task is set to act automatically. You'll see what it intends to send before anything goes out.
If the connection stops working
If Gmail access expires or is revoked on Google's side, agents won't be able to use it until you reconnect. If a task reports that it can't access Gmail, reconnect it from the integrations area.
Disconnecting
You can disconnect Gmail at any time from the integrations area. See Managing connected integrations.
