What Kohai can see in Slack
Kohai's Slack app receives DMs sent to it and mentions in channels it has joined. Installing it does not give it access to every conversation.
Ask Kohai in Slack
Open the installed app's Messages tab, or invite it to a channel and mention it. Use /invite followed by the installed app's name; some installations still show Hirebase.
For a channel summary, ask in the app's Messages tab, for example "Read #planning" with the channel picked from Slack's channel picker. It reads up to 100 recent messages at a time, not the entire history.
Public channels
When you ask Kohai to read a named public channel, it joins that channel if the installation has the required permission, posts one line saying who asked, and stays in the channel. It does not join other channels in the background.
This is on by default. A workspace admin can turn off Join public channels when someone asks in Kohai's Slack connection settings. With it off, invite the app to the public channel before asking it to read.
Private channels and group DMs
These still need an invitation. Your own access does not give the app access, and the app shares private conversation history only with a member of that conversation. If a read fails because the app is not a member, invite the installed app and try again.
Turn a message into a task
Mentioning Kohai in a message to yourself does not reach the app. Instead:
- Open the message's menu and choose the task shortcut under Connect to apps.
- Review the title and instructions, then submit.
The shortcut may say Create Hirebase task; its dialog says Create Kohai task. It captures the selected message without granting access to the rest of the conversation. Follow the task in Kohai if the app cannot post updates there.
Missing permissions?
For workspace app errors, ask its installer to refresh authorization or invite it to the channel. For a personal account under Apps, reconnect that account instead. These are separate connections.
